ABOUT

Katie at Abbey Road Studios, London
With a rich musical heritage that includes my grandfather, a cellist with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and my great uncle, a Musical Director for Mike Yarwood and Freddie Starr, it was clear from an early age that music would shape my life.
My journey began at a young age, showing talent as a toddler, and at six years old, I was taken under the wing of Dame Fanny Waterman. At twelve, I entered the BBC "Look North" Christmas Carol competition, marking the start of my compositional career. I honed my skills further at the Royal College of Music, completing a performance degree, and then began teaching class music and piano to infant and junior pupils.
In 1994, Music for Brass published my first two euphonium solos, "From Within" and "Song without Words." While working at Barnsley College, I studied composition with Philip Wilby at Leeds University. Subsequently, Wright and Round published several of my brass band pieces, and I self-published numerous instrumental solos. One notable achievement was having my runner-up competition piece, "Fanfare Chorus and Hymn," performed by Harlequin Brass at Sheffield Cathedral for the inauguration of the Archbishop of Sheffield.
My ladies' choir, Northern Songbirds, performed with Hope and Social at the Leeds Arena for the opening ceremony of the Tour De France. As a professional accompanist for the northern-based choir Rock Up and Sing, I had the honour of recording at Abbey Road Studios.
During lockdown, I composed a score for the Bridgerton series competition and wrote, produced, and directed my one-woman musical "It's My Life" for the Buxton Fringe Festival. I also collaborated on "Baba Yaga" for the Aldeburgh Festival.
